Asmodeus, the incendiary demon

Asmodeus is a demon whose genesis is lost in the mists of time and also one of the most important according to the hierarchy of infernal spirits. According to the kabbalistic tradition it is the head of the fifth group of incendiary demons, the Galb, angry spirits. He commands the legions and is also known as "the destroyer", par excellence is considered the demon of greed, anger and revenge.

Asmodeus is the FIRE DEMON, the bearer of FIRE.

From the phonological point of view the word aeshma-daeva, in which daeva literally means "head" and aeshma means the term "demon", it is possible to notice the strong connection with "Asmodeus". It would therefore be deduced that Aeshma-daeva would indicate the figure of the "chief demon", which is often found in some magic formulas invoking "the one who is the prince of demons".

The name of Asmodeo (Asmodai, Asmodaeus) is already mentioned in Babylonian mythology and especially in the Zoroastric religion, in which it is possible to point out the correspondence of the seven archangels of the Bible

The Egyptians, who worshiped all the gods, built a temple in the Ryanneh desert in his honor, worshiping him as a protector of gambling. This had a strong influence on the Jews who lived in slavery for a long time in Egypt. Later on, Judaism will confuse the demons with evil spirits from which they could not free themselves except with special ceremonies and exorcisms.

Asmodeo's goat appearance, according to the ancient tradition of Israel, would derive from the fact that evil spirits would come directly from God. For the Jews the King of demons had three heads: one of a bull, one of a ram and the third of a man. In place of the tail it had a snake, which some believe would be the serpent that seduced Eve, the feet were of goose and breathed fire; he rode a dragon, carrying a banner and a spear.

Asmodeus: Demon of ancient Iranian religion (Aeshma Daeva) adopted by post-exilic Judaism (in the book of Tibia, 3.8.17); in rabbinic literature it finally becomes the maximum of all evil spirits.
In some respects Asmodeus remembers the Assyrian Pazuzu. With the name Asmodai it is found in the lists of the angels and the Demons associated to the hours in the medieval astrology.

The Asmondeo demon was "portrayed" in at least two famous examples, the first being in France at Rennes Le Château, a small village in the Aude department, in Languedoc, in southern France.
This church has many ties to the Templars.

In Italy a representation of Asmodeus is found in an archpriest church of S. Lucia di Piave (TV) in the Veneto region, dedicated to Saint Lucia.
It is a composition in Carrara marble, cm high. 243, formed by an imposing demon on his knees, forced to support the shell of the Acquasanta on which stands a bronze Madonna.
The Virgin Mary: standing on the waters of the Church is the new Eve, the woman prophesied in the book of Genesis, who by giving Christ to the world crushes evil.

Asmodeus is also mentioned in the Ars Goetia, a seventeenth-century treaty (with some sections dating back to the fourteenth century) which contains descriptions of the 72 demons that were evoked by King Solomon and then imprisoned in a bronze vase sealed with magical symbols and obliged to serving. The Ars Goetia also contains instructions for building a similar vase and for using magic rites for the evocations of these creatures.
